Dr. Brown is a clinical assistant professor in equine surgery at Virginia Tech's Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center. After earning a doctor of veterinary medicine from Washington State University in 1999, she conducted an internship at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, in 2000 and completed a surgery residency program at Michigan State University in 2003. Dr. Brown joined the faculty at the center in August 2003 as a clinical instructor in emergency care and equine surgery. She was named acting nursing director in October 2003 and was promoted to the rank of clinical assistant professor in emergency care and equine surgery in August 2005. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Brown's research interests include pharmacokinetics of lidocaine CRI, and colic and upper airway surgeries. Since 2005, Dr. Brown has participated in the National Disaster Medical System's Veterinary Medical Assistance Team - 2 as both a veterinary medical officer and a training officer. She is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, the Virginia Association of Equine Practitioners, and the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association.
