The MR revealed a focal enlargement of the deep digital flexor tendon just proximal to the navicular bone (arrows). There is increased signal on both the T2 and STIR images which represents fluid within the tendon at the site of acute inflammation. This is one of the most common findings associated with palmar heel pain and may or may not involve the navicular bone or bursa. Treatments include rest, injection of the digital tendon sheath, corrective shoeing and potentially a palmar digital neurectomy when other treatments are not successful.
